Jaw Jaw A Tela

From €245 /per person

Jaw Jaw is a maroon village in the Upper Suriname area. The Maroons are descendants of enslaved Africans who managed to escape during the colonial period and built their own communities inland.
Jaw Jaw is inhabited by Saramaccans, who are known for their rich traditions, music and rituals. Daily life largely takes place in close connection with nature, with agriculture and hunting playing an important role in subsistence.
The villages in this region each have their own cultural customs and history. Due to its remote location, many traditions and ways of life have been well preserved over the years.
