The Kasikasima Expedition is perfect for adventurous travelers who love a challenge. The Tour starts in Paramaribo with a flight to Palumeu, a jungle resort on the upper reaches of the Tapanahonyriver, close to the native village with the same name.
The next day your adventurous journey starts by boat and on foot through unspoilt Amazon forest. Through the Palumeurivier you cross rapids and sleep in hammocks on simple jungle camps in the middle of nature.
From the base camp, idyllically located at the foot of the Sawaniboto current rapes, the climb starts to one of the tops of the Granite Kasikasima Mountains. This intensive jungle tour lasts approximately seven hours (there), with an hour's break on the top. There you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the endless canopy of the Amazon forest - an experience that feels like "Top of the World".

Program

Day 1

You leave from the local care and hope in Paramaribo for a flight of about 75 minutes to the Airstrip near the Indigenous village of Palumeu, deep in the south of Suriname. Upon arrival you will be welcomed by our team on the Jungle Lodge, a stone's throw from the trio and Wajana village of Palumeu.

After checking in you will leave by boat to Palawa island for a picnic lunch. Here you can swim in the refreshing river water and enjoy the relaxing nature. In the afternoon you will visit the indigenous village of Palumeu. The oldest inhabitants of the Amazon forest know how to keep their age -old traditions in their way of life and crafts.
The lodge is built with an eye for sustainability. You will become acquainted with various eco-aspects: meals are prepared on wood fire with local ingredients, solar energy ensures mood lighting, and the cool nights make air conditioning or fan unnecessary-a mosquito net ensures your comfort.
In the evening the guide prepares you for the expedition. You will receive practical tips about safety, comfort and how to deal with this unspoilt rainforest in a respectful way. Your adventure is about to start!

Day 2

A real group feeling arises immediately when everyone helps with loading the stocks in the wooden cancer. You take everything you need in the coming days. In the simplicity of the jungle you live a few days without the luxury you are probably used to: no telephone, no internet, no contact with the outside world. You experience life as a true explorer.
You can sail over the Tapanahony and Palumeur River to camp Kamakabari per canoe. The tour lasts, depending on the water level, between three and seven o'clock. Upon arrival our cook prepares a tasty lunch, while everyone helps set up the hammock camp.
The guide shows how to properly attach your hammock and mosquito net, how to sleep comfortably and how the sanitary facilities work in the jungle. In the afternoon, while the cook prepares the dinner, there is time to relax: a fresh dive, a natural massage in the rapids (in the case of suitable water level) or a fishing line.

Day 3

After your first night in the jungle and a hearty breakfast, we break the camp together. Everything is loaded in the canoe for the trip to the next destination: the base camp at the Sawaniboto Waterval, at the foot of the Kasikasima mountain.
During this trip, the boatsmen must pull the canoe through different rapids. With low tide your help is asked to pull the boat over shallow pieces, a real teaching experience! One rapids, the drumbakasula, is too dangerous to pass. Here the canoe is completely unloaded and we wear all the stuff on foot over a hill.
This physical activity is immediately a good warm-up for the climb to Kasikasima. On the other side of the hill, the canoe is ready to take you further upstream to the base camp.
Arrival at the camp is in the afternoon. After the hammocks have been hung, you can relax. After dinner, the guide tells more about the highlight of this expedition: the climb of one of the tops of the impressive Kasikasima mountain.

Day 4

After a sturdy jungle trip on several small hills, you reach the foot of the impressive Kasikasima mountain. Along the way, the guide points you on animal tracks and sounds, and tells you about the mythical forces that the indigenous population attributes to this mountain.
With a bit of luck you will see the rare bright orange rockyhan (cock-of-the-rock), a spectacular bird that sometimes pops up here. The climb to the top and back takes a total of around seven hours. Once upstairs you have about an hour to enjoy a breathtaking view of the pristine Amazon rainforest. In clear weather you can even see the border with Brazil.
On the plateau you use lunch between tropical rock plants, in the middle of the overwhelming nature. The descent is at least as adventurous as the climb up.
Back in the base camp you can relax with a natural massage in the refreshing water of the rapids, while the cook prepares a delicious meal. And if the weather permits, we end the day with stories and fun around the campfire.

Day 5

Early in the morning you will leave for a sturdy jungle walk for the impressive KodeBaku waterfalls. During the trip the guide tells you everything about the special flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest. Arriving at the waterfalls you can enjoy a spectacular natural phenomenon: the roaring water that makes its way through the jungle.
If present, we also pay a short visit to a small traditional Indian camp, inhabited by two families.
Lunch is ready for you on your return to the base camp. Then there is free time to relax. You can go fishing with the boatsmen, or just enjoy the peace and natural beauty of this unspoilt part of the Amazon.
After dinner we take a boat trip on the river to silently listen to the mysterious sounds of the jungle in the evening. A magical moment that you will not soon forget.

Day 6

In the early morning, at sunrise, we silently sail a bit downstream in a traditional canoe. Without a motorcycle, to enjoy the awakening of the jungle in peace, a magical moment full of bird singing and mystical sounds.
The rest of the day is free to spend. For those who feel like it, there is the possibility to take a walk in the woods together with others. But you can also relax: take a refreshing dip in the river, try your skills with bow and arch, or go fishing with the boatsmen.
A perfect day to enjoy nature and the special atmosphere of the rainforest at your own pace.

Day 7

After breaking down the camp we start the return trip to Palumeu. The trip downstream goes a lot faster than the outward journey, but again offers ample opportunity to enjoy nature.
Along the way you have the chance to spot animals again: howler monkeys high in the treetops, caimans on the river banks, and with some luck even a giant shooter. Lunch is served en route, in a beautiful place along the river.
In the afternoon we arrive in Palumeu, where you will enjoy the refreshing welcome drink after this impressive trip. After dinner, say goodbye to the cook and boatsmen, who made this special expedition possible.

Day 8

In the morning the guide takes you on a walk through the village. Along the way you get a glimpse into the daily life of the residents and you have the opportunity to buy traditional handmade souvenirs directly from the villagers.
After lunch you will leave by boat to the runway for the return flight to Paramaribo.
